The primary purpose of this standard was to provide a more robust and efficient alternative to the original XMODEM-based transfers used in early FidoNet communications. SEAlink was designed specifically to handle the "sliding window" technology of newer high-speed modems while maintaining backward compatibility with the basic FidoNet protocol (FTS-0001).
